As a musician myself, I could not be more impressed by the musicianship and professionalism that was exemplified with the Ovation String Quartet. They even learned new songs for our special day!”

— September 2017 wedding

Welcome to the Ovation String Quartet website.  We are a Minneapolis based string quartet with a mission of providing superior service and outstanding performances.   Our very extensive and versatile repertoire makes us unique and means that we customize our selections for each event.  Whether we are performing music by Bach or Prince, or anything in between,  our energy and vitality make every event memorable.

We play for concerts, weddings, parties, funerals, educational workshops, and also really enjoy performing at coffee shops.  Whatever the event, we give it our all and always have a great time!

Happy Spring!!

Spring in Minnesota was welcomed by a dusting of snow, but that's part of living in the great city of Minneapolis!  Ovation played a show at Icehouse on March 4th, and we had a wonderful crowd.  We played a wide range of music that included the first movement of Schubert's Death and the Maiden Quartet, Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin, Pure Imagination from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, It Had to be You, and many others.  Looking forward, we will be back at Dunn Brothers on Grand Avenue on June 23rd, where we love to play.  Some people listen intently, others listen while working on laptops, and others chat with their friends but it's all good for us.  We are also excited to be playing at The Warming House on September 15th and will be planning our music over the summer.

Speaking of summer, we will begin the busy wedding season shortly, and look forward to playing at some new venues as well as many of the others we have played at before and enjoy.  We will have the opportunity to learn some new music and play together a lot during this time of the year.  We still have some open times, so if you are looking for a string group that will work hard and provide personalized service, send an email and request a quote!

Looking Towards 2018

As we approach the year end, I look at what we accomplished in 2017 and what we look forward to for next year.  There is so much to be grateful for:

 - We played together about 75 times this year (weddings, parties, public shows).

- I arranged in excess of 50 new songs for the group, including selections as diverse as Fur Elise (Beethoven) and Barracuda (Heart).  Some of the highlights were adding some great 70-80's songs, Pure Imagination from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a Lindsey Stirling song, and so many more.  Thanks to our clients for requesting such wonderful music.

- We won a grant and played a public concert sponsored by St. Paul's Year of Music program.

- We had a ton of fun!

What's up for 2018?  More weddings, parties, public shows.  We are excited to play on March 4th at Icehouse (5 pm).  The venue is so beautiful and is located in the hip Eat Street area on Nicollet.  If you are considering booking us, make sure that you contact me so that I can include you on the guest list.

Ovation is so blessed - we are friends and have a great working relationship - all of us are committed to delivering the best service and music to our clients!  If you haven't already, request our repertoire list.  We have so much variety, and are always open to new selections.

All the best,

Laurie Melting Stegner

Wedding Season

It is already summer  and we are in the midst of our wedding season.  It's going to be a busy one, that's for sure.

I have been working with couples in selecting music, arranging specially requested songs, and doing all the work ahead of time so that everyone is on the same page.  That is the key to allowing the wedding to be as stress-free as possible so that everyone can enjoy what is happening.  With the music requests that we have received, our song list has once again really expanded, which we love.  It is always fun to play something new and broaden our horizons.  I am currently arranging an Adele song that will be a lovely bridal procession.

We are really happy to develop a partnership with another group called Sonare Strings.  They represent the same integrity, musicianship, and attention to detail that we consider important.  So, if we are booked, we are able to offer up this wonderful group and we will be sharing our extensive contemporary repertoire list with Sonare Strings

Have a great summer, everyone!

Happy 2017!!

After very busy wedding and holiday seasons, Ovation is now gearing up for live shows open to the public in February.  Here is some more information:

February 12 - We won a grant through the Minnesota Music Coalition that gives us the opportunity to play at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church in St. Paul.  We are so excited to prepare this concert, which will feature our typical variety of music, including a movement from the Dvorak American Quartet and a Stevie Wonder tune, both new to us.

February 19 - This performance is at a music venue called Honey (below Ginger Hop in the hopping NE Minneapolis neighborhood).  We are excited to be playing at a club.  Also, their food is great!!

February 26 - We are playing during brunch time (10 am to noon) at Butter Bakery in Minneapolis.  The owner is a wonderful person, and we were particularly impressed on how he has partnered with neighborhood non-profits.  He also has very high standards in terms of environmental efforts and sustainability.  It is a business model to be admired and we are honored to play there.

OTHER BIG NEWS!!  For the third year in a row, we won the Consumer's Choice Award from Wedding Wire.  This is awarded to about 5% of their vendors and we earned this through customer feedback.

We look forward to many weddings, concerts, and fabulous music making in 2017!!

Autumn is Here!

We have had a very busy wedding season, playing everywhere from St. Croix Falls to Northfield.  One weekend we had six weddings!  Another highlight was a house concert that we played in September, where we were joined by Mary Petrich on saxophone and Shannon Wenzel on vocals.  The program showed our versatility and included everything from Vivaldi to Stormy Monday (a blues tune) to a tango to be-bop jazz to hard rock.  It was really fun and we had a great audience!

Our next live performance is at Dunn Brothers on Grand Avenue in St. Paul on October 28th, and we will  be scheduling some coffee shop performances during the winter.

Check out our Facebook page and see some of the things we have been up to!

Wedding Season Begins

The busy summer and fall wedding season has begun this month, and we are excited for all of the ceremonies we will play during the next several months.  I've been busy with new arrangements of songs requested by clients, and we always find it fun to add music to our repertoire.

Sometimes couples ask what is important in selecting their music.  I advise clients to choose music that is meaningful, and will create the desired atmosphere. There are no right or wrong choices, and each wedding is unique based on personal preferences.  I am actually getting married in June, and It's interesting to work through the details on the other side this time, I have realized how much work is involved, and how important it is to have fun along the way.

Today I worked on flowers (my friend, Nikki is going to put together some beautiful arrangements) and I am thinking about the atmosphere that we would like to have and how all our decisions have a part in that.  As I worked with Nikki, I realized how grateful I am to hear her advice and expertise, while at the same time glad that she listens to my ideas.  I am relying on her to help me through the decisions - I certainly couldn't do it on my own.

Ovation works in that same way - listening to your needs and offering our expertise.  Please send us a message on our Contact page if you would like to discuss the possibility of working with us.
